2022 COURSE UPDATE

RIPPED UP FARMLANDS

In 2021 half of the original course land was sold to new farmers. Their goal was to have all the vines and orchards pulled out and replanted with almond trees.  This was originally supposed to be completed in time for the 2022 race. Unfortunately, it is not, it is currently in process of being ripped out, and that half of the course is in unusable condition, plus all the beauty has turned into a barren graveyard of uprooted trees.

NEW 2.5 MILE COURSE

The good news is the other half of the course is still intact with fruit orchards. After inspecting several alternative routes of the college farms we were able to make up a new course that includes vines, fields, and running by the college cows. Mooo!

The new course is a bit longer coming in at 2.5-miles and will now consist of 2 loop sections that intersect at the creek crossing to make a figure 8 style course. This new route is flatter as we lost the hill section from the old course making it even easier to complete more laps.

100-MILES

With the longer 2.5 mile loop, this means it will only take 40-laps to complete 100-miles.  We also eliminated the shorter 1-mile loop as we were not able to get an exact mile configuration with the available lands.

10K IS NOW 12K

Due to the new lap distance, the 10K will now get bumped up to a 12K race by completing 3-laps of the 2.5-mile course.

Below are details and a map for you to review. Thank you for your understanding and support. We will review it again for 2023 to see if we will be able to go back to the original course or keep this new course (which we really like).

COURSE LAPS

RACE LAPS

The race consists of a 2.5-mile lap course where runners will do as many laps as possible in the time of 6, 12, or 24-hours. 12K runners will complete 3-laps.  100-mile runners will complete 40-laps.

FINAL LAP

Those coming into the finish line with 20-minutes or less of the cutoff time of their race category will need to stop and finish. If more than 20-minutes they can continue for a final lap. It's okay if you go over the category time.

100-MILERS

The 100-mile race participants will need to complete 40-laps of the 2.5-mile course before 30-hours.

They must reach 85-miles (34-laps) by the 24-hour point to be allowed to continue for an additional 6-hours and complete 100-miles by 30-hours.

All 100-mile finishers receive a 100-mile buckle in addition to the finisher medal.

ELEVATION PROFILE

The new course is even flatter than the previous course, the only real elevation is at the creek bridge crossing which has a very small slope that doesn't even show up on the elevation profile.

LAP CHECKPOINT

As runners complete each lap they are required to stop at the race leaderboards and mark off the lap they just completed before starting the next lap to track progress throughout the race. Leaderboard progress is self-managed by the runners in addition to chip tracking for final results posted after the race.

Lap Tracking

REFUEL & FOOD

At the lap checkpoint, we will have a fully stocked station to help runners refuel. In addition to the standard flow of water, gels, electrolytes, salt capsules, there will be a constant rotation of salty and sweet snacks, bars, pickles, PBJ's, hot foods through the night, local farm-fresh fruit and frozen popsicles during the day on Sunday, plus we will serve dinner on Saturday night after the race has started, breakfast Sunday morning, and lunch on Sunday to help keep you going strong to finish the amazing Silver Moon Race.

DROP BAGS

For those who are not camping along the course for easy access to their items, there will be a designated drop bag area that you can place a bag or cooler to quickly access as needed when coming through the checkpoint lap. While volunteers will always be overseeing the drop bag area, please do not leave important valuables in your bags, we are not responsible for missing items.

TEAM RELAY

The team relay option allows 4-runners to team up and attempt to complete as many laps as possible as a team in the 6, 12, 24-hours or the 100-mile race.

Team members take turns alternating through laps or time periods, thus reducing the total laps per person which "technically" should allow each "rested" person to keep a faster lap pace.

Teams can choose to rotate through each lap or choose to split up the overall time evenly. For example, if running the 12-hour race, each team member would run for approximately 3 hours.
