Below you will find answers to the questions most frequently asked about the Silver Moon Race.

Where do I register for the Silver Moon Race?
           Collapse
Register for the Silver Moon Race: Paso Robles is available through our site.

REGISTER
      Can I register on UltraSignup?
           Expand
Unfortunately not. UltraSignup request exclusive use of their registration platform, that means as organizers, they will not allow us to use any other platform, including our own website if we were to have Silver Moon Race listed on UltraSignup.

This is very limiting for us, so going forward we will not be listed with them. We have tried to work with them and they will not change their policy. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

The good news is you can still sign up to participate in the Silver Moon Race, simply register through our website here.

REGISTER
What day is the Silver Moon Race in Paso Robles?
           Expand
The 5th annual Silver Moon Race in Paso Robles date is TBA for 2025. All participants will park by the race location in the vineyard. The entrance for participants is through the main vineyard entrance that is about 1000 feet past the normal wine room entrance off Linne Rd.

Follow signs leading to the event location and parking locations.

We recommend arriving early to set up camp and settle in, giving you time to check-in and then rest up or take a nap before the start.

View Directions

      What is the event schedule?
           Expand
The Silver Moon Race in Paso Robles schedule will be as follows.

SATURDAY

SUNDAY

MONDAY

*Note that 6 and 12-hour runners have the choice of starting at 6:00 PM on Saturday with the main race running into the night or starting at 6:00 AM Sunday morning running into the day. Event parking will be on the vineyard within the race location. While there is ample parking, depending on where you are coming from it can be a long drive, so we recommend to buddy up and carpool to the race together and make it an awesome race adventure!

When parking:

View Directions

Am I required to sign a waiver?
           Expand
Yes. In order to receive your race bib, timing chip, and swag, you will need to turn in a signed waiver and show your ID. You may download and print the waiver ahead of time and bring it with you to help expedite your check-in.

Download Waiver

What should I prepare for the race?
           Expand
The Silver Moon Race is trying to be as green as possible and create minimal waste. Please help us by bringing your own water bottle or hydration pack for the race. You can refill water and Gnarly electrolytes at the aid station. Below you will find a list of recommended items for running the race.

If running the 24-hour or 100-mile race:

Note: If you are running for 24-hours or 100-miles you will need to plan out your run as much as possible. Especially if this is your first run for that long. While we will have lots of water and food to keep you going, you may require or be used to specific foods and fuel to get you through the race. It is best to over-prepare your gear and food to ensure you have the best race possible.

How does the team relay work?
           Expand
Relay teams consist of 4-team members and can run in the 6/12/24-hour or 100-mile race categories.

TEAM ROTATION OPTIONS

As a team, you have the following options on how to do the relay:

The team needs to decide how they wish to race and to be in communication so everyone is aware of who is going next and approximately when they will be going next. It is recommended for relay teams to camp at the race, preferably near the festival, but it’s okay to choose a spot along the course.

BIB PASSING

The bib pass-off can happen at the lap checkpoint or anywhere on the course as long as it is always at the same location for everyone. The main requirement is to divide the relay to be as equal as possible among the team.

The team will share one bib using a bib belt. Once a runner is done with their segment, then take off the bib belt and pass it to the next runner to wear while doing their lap(s). The bib must be worn when running and must cross the timing mat for accurate lap times, total lap count, and total time.

RELAY TEAM REGISTRATION

Relay teams register once as a team with one single payment. The team leader will need to collect entry fees and information from each team member and register the entire team with one payment.

BIB BELT REQUIREMENT

The team is responsible for bringing their own bib belt for passing the bib/timing chip to each team member. Only 1 bib belt is required for a team. We recommend bib running belt like this or similar.

A relay team member can’t go, how to change entry?
           Expand
If you have registered your team and one of the registered team members can’t make it to the race simply submit a team member change request so we can get the correct information for the new team member in our system and they can check-in at the race.

Incomplete relay teams of 3 or 2 members can still participate in the race as a relay team and still earn a medal, however, to keep everything fair they will not qualify for top relay team trophies.

      Can I have a pacer?
           Expand
Yes. Crew and pacers are allowed on the course to help support your race. This can be very helpful for 12/24-hour and 100-mile runners. All pacers, crew, spectators, and family are required to turn in a signed waiver at the check-in and follow safety guidelines.

It is the runner’s responsibility to collect the waiver for each person attending the race in support of them. Please add the runner’s bib number to the waiver and note the bib number if it’s for PACER/CREW/SPECTATOR.

Waivers are available for download in the waiver question above.

I am a slow runner. Can I do this race?
           Expand
Yes. You can accomplish anything you want as long as you set your mind to do it and train for it. The race is planned for participants of all abilities-including walkers.

While doing any endurance activity for 6 or more hours can be a challenge, you can run or walk as much as you like. If you are new to this type of event we suggest doing the 10K which is 3 laps or go for the 6-hour category. To make it even easier, do the race in a team relay, grab 3-friends, and team up to take turns doing laps for the time period.

View Course

      How to track laps, leaderboard?
           Expand
There will be leaderboards for 6, 12, 24-hour, and 100-mile categories set up to track your laps. As you come through the checkpoint for each lap, stop at the leaderboard and mark off your lap. This is an honor system, there is no cheating in this race, what you put into it is what you will get out of it. This is required and only the runner is allowed to mark off their completed lap.

Black and colored Sharpies will be available, but we recommend you bring your own color Sharpie to use throughout the race. This helps your row color be unique to you and easy to spot and mark off for each lap.

Here’s an example of a past leaderboard sheet.

      Is there camping options?
           Expand
Yes. Camping space is available at the race location where you can set up a tent or canopy or RV that can be your home base of the race weekend. Then you can access before the race, on lap breaks, and after the race.

View Camping Details

Those wishing to camp MUST arrive no later than 2:00 PM on Saturday to set up and prepare.

You can reserve a spot with your registration to set up a tent, park an RV, fifth wheel, or camper at the race.

Reserve your spot today.

What local hotel or lodging options are available?
           Expand
Paso Robles is in the heart of central California’s wine country with lots of local lodging options if you don’t want to camp out at the race.

In addition to camping options along the course, Cass has their brand new Geneseo Inn B&B situated in the middle of the vineyards, providing the perfect B&B retreat to make it the ultimate race lodging experience for you to enjoy. We recommend booking early to guarantee availability.

Can I bring my own water bottle or hydration pack?
           Expand
Yes! Bring your own water bottle. We are attempting to be a green as possible with this race and want to minimize waste and environmental footprint. We ask that you bring your own running bottle or hydration pack. This will help reduce the use of paper cups, plastic water bottles, and overall waste. Since you will have access to the station and supplies every 2-miles you can refill your water container very frequently (there will be cups if needed). The station will have electrolytes, gels, snacks, foods, salt capsules and first aid available to help you refuel and stay hydrated. Also please avoid throwing any trash on the course or at the race, place all trash in the trash containers. Thank you!

      What are the cutoff times?
           Expand
The 6, 12, and 24-hour races cut off at their specified times. Those doing the 24-hour race who have reached 84 miles by 24-hour mark have the option to upgrade mid-race to the 100-mile distance for $20.

100-mile runners must reach 84-miles by the 24-hour mark to continue. The 100-mile race cutoff is 30-hours, runners who do not reach 100-miles will not get DNF, but will have their total miles noted in the results.

Are there awards for top finishers?
           Expand
Awards are given to 1st place male and female winners in each category except for the Wine Walk. The awards typically include a top finisher trophy and a bottle of CASS Wine from the winery. To qualify for the awards you must be in the 6:00 PM start time on Saturday. Awards are handed out upon the category finish time.

For those who are running the 6 or 12-hour category and wish to start at 6:00 AM on Sunday, you will not be qualified for 1st place trophies. However, if you do come in 1st overall once results are tallied, then you will receive a reward either at the race or sent after the race, plus be recognized in the results and finisher certificates.

      Will the course be marked?
           Expand
Yes. The course will be clearly marked using colored flagging tape and directional signs. Plus various sections of the course will have some lights. Study the course map to best prepare for an awesome race!

View Course

      Are there age restrictions?
           Expand
Yes. The age requirements are as follows.

As this is a challenging endurance race for extended periods of time all those 16-years or younger need parents’ consent and showing proof that they are in regular endurance and fitness training to take on this type of challenge. Young runners must be in good shape and in regular endurance training.

Younger runners can run the race with approval from the Race Director. Young runners that wish to run the race should be accompanied by an adult and must request approval from the Race Director. Please contact the Race Director.

Will there be a gear drop?
           Expand
Yes. As the race location is far from the parking location there will be a gear drop available where you can check-in your bag and have easy access as needed during lap checkpoints, breaks, and after the race.

We recommend preparing a race bag that contains everything you need for the race. Suggestions include:

If running the 24-hour or 100-mile race:

Write or tape your bib number in large clear view on your drop bag.

Note: We are not responsible for the contents of your bags, please keep them closed and sealed, do not leave important valuables in them.

Will there be bathrooms at the race?
           Expand
Yes. There will be portable toilets by the race staging location.

What type of weather is expected?
           Expand
March usually offers some of the best running weather in Central California. The average high temperature is around 65º with the average low around 42º. We recommend checking the weather forecast a week before the race so you can prepare appropriately.

It’s a cooler season that requires planning multiple sets of running gear for cold nights, cool mornings/evenings, and warmer days. For those doing the 24-hour and 100-mile races, we recommend having extra sets of layers and running clothes to adjust to the temperatures.

      Can I wear headphones?
           Expand
For your safety and the safety of all participants, we do not recommend wearing headphones while running a race. However, if you do, we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so you can hear other runners and instructions from event personnel. The important thing is paying attention to everyone’s safety and maintaining basic race etiquette with other runners.

If you love to wear headphones while running then we can recommend using bone-conducting headphones that do not cover your ears, these allow you to fully hear your surroundings while also listening to your favorite music or audio. To learn more take a look at Aftershokz Trek Titanium headphones from our vendor and sponsor Edrald Enterprises.

Are wheelchairs or strollers allowed on the course?
           Expand
No. This is an all dirt farm road course. Unauthorized bicycles, motorized vehicles, wheelchairs and strollers not permitted on the race course due to safety concerns.

Will the race be canceled in the event of rain?
           Expand
No. Unless there is severe weather on the days before and on the race day, the Silver Moon Race will be held whether it’s sunny, raining, snowing or anything in between. The weather only adds to the adventure to make for an awesome race experience!

Yet, there are still potential risks that are beyond our control that could cause a race to be canceled or postponed. We hope that will never happen, however, we do have an event cancellation policy.

How will the race be timed?
           Expand
The race will be chip timed for best accuracy using a MyLaps timing system with BibTag chips that are attached to your race bib. Final results will be posted on this website after the race.

To ensure your chip is tracked and timed correctly:

Yes. Distance and time division change requests are available, the cut off for all changes is 1-week before the race date. Submit change request from the contact page.

Request Change

I can’t make it, what are my options?
           Expand
Unfortunately, due to the advanced planning and logistics entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. As per the terms agreed upon registering, once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate. Sorry, no exceptions.

You do have the following options available:

Requests MUST be submitted before the race date. Requests on or after the race date will not be honored. Entries that have been deferred once can not be deferred a second time.

You may not give or sell your number to anyone else without submitting an official transfer request.

Relay Teams Please submit your request from the contact page.

Is it okay if I run in the race without registering?
           Expand
No, it is not. The event takes place on private property. Those entering into the start/finish area or intentionally jumping into the race just after the start, using the marked course, racing against other runners, etc. are essentially freeloading off of the race and the other runners, regardless of whether they take aid station supplies, medals or other race supplies.

Permits, insurance and race materials for the event are obtained with set numbers of participants planned and accounted for. Costs for events are also planned, taking into account those numbers and sharing the race costs among all entrants.

When people “hijack” a race they jeopardize the race’s ability to come back, create potential for problems for other runners trying to determine their place in the race and for support personnel to identify participants and (if necessary) provide emergency support. Like shoplifting, being a race bandit does not cost the person taking anything, but the cost ultimately goes to the people who follow the rules and pay to run the race.

What is a virtual runner? And why would anyone do that?
           Expand
The virtual runner registration option is a service for runners who are physically unable to make it to a race but still wish to train for and achieve a running goal as part of the race. This includes persons who live far from urban areas with races and those with schedules that simply will not allow them to be present. Runners receive race materials via mail and then can report back on their run and share their accomplishments with other runners in the community. This can be done alone or with a group of runners.

Running remotely will never be as good as running in person at the actual event, but for those with no other options, it offers a way to stay connected to their running community to help them commit to and celebrate their running achievements while earning our awesome medal and swag.

REGISTER
How does the virtual runner work?
           Expand
Once you have registered as a virtual runner you can choose to run wherever you like, on your favorite trail, park, school track, or even on a treadmill.

Simply track your time and distance using a Garmin or app such as Run Keeper. Once you finish, email us a photo or screengrab of your final time and distance.

That’s it. Then we’ll mail you the awesome medal and swag.

REGISTER

Add the 2024 Silver Moon Race: Paso Robles to your calendar.

      ADD TO CALENDAR

Join the 2024 Silver Moon Race: Paso Robles event on Facebook to get the latest updates and connect with fellow participants.

      JOIN FACEBOOK EVENT

The Silver Moon Race is an insured and permitted event.
